Save America

The presidential election is less than four months away. This country has been through so much scandal, investigations, corruption, and incompetence these past three and a half years, it’s beyond a relief that the time we can put an end to this chaotic and lawless administration is merely months away.

And November can’t come soon enough.

I don’t know if the pandemic is making the time go by slower or faster. My days seem to melt together because they’re pretty much the same. Does this make the days feel shorter or longer? Shorter because Wednesday can slip into Thursday or longer because Thursday can still feel like Wednesday? I don’t know, but I’ve been quarantining since mid-March, until about a month ago when I started making weekly trips to grocery stores.

I’m a writer, and luckily I’m able to do that at home, but I used to go to places to write some pages like, my local public library, the Morton Arboretum, coffee houses, and my late-night favorite, IHOP. But these days I’ve been writing at home and I’ve used the quarantine time to finally finish the novel I’ve been working on for the past two years. That feels great.

I’m an introvert at heart, so quarantining probably hasn’t been as hard on me as has been for all the extroverts out there. Aside from writing, I like to cook, read and was always a movie buff.  So add three more activities to the “things to pass the time” list.

As I write about quarantining, the news is swarming about the skyrocket rate of new Coronavirus cases in the U.S and I’m aware not everyone is taking this virus and the need to quarantine seriously. With over 130,000 Americans dead and no sign that U.S cases are going to slow down, please stay home when you can, and if you have to go out, wear a mask.

If we had a decent president in this country, wearing a mask in public wouldn’t be considered political. Under a competent president, wearing a mask in public during a global pandemic would be considered the sensible thing to do. But, sigh, we have neither a decent nor a competent president.

But you can help to change that. If you’re stuck at home, and are neither a writer, nor a reader, nor a movie buff , nor a cook, and you are looking for something to do to help pass the time, I have a suggestion for you – postcarding.

If you want Trump out of office as much as I do, postcarding is a great way to help get people out to vote. There are ten states considered to be swing states that both parties need to win in November. If you have the time, please consider writing postcards to constituents of these states and urge them to get out and vote.

Every vote matters.

You can pick which swing state you want to send your postcard to.  Postcards will be sent to you at no charge, with a pre-written message that you write on each card, but you do have to supply the .35 cent postage.

The ten swing states are, Arizona, Iowa, Maine, Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Kansas, North Carolina, and Montana.

Every single one of us needs to do all we can to get this narcissistic and authoritarian maniac out of the White House.

Still Think Trump Doesn’t Incite Violence?

As a Presidential candidate, Donald Trump often lamented at his rallies about missing the good ol’ days when people weren’t afraid of hurting other people. As a candidate, he often used strong, violent language to get his base riled up. And it often worked. There were numerous instances of violence against protestors at his rallies in 2016, which Donald Trump encouraged by assuring his supporters that he’d pay their legal fees.

Despite this, there were still people who claimed Trump was a unifier, not a divider. That he didn’t incite any violence in anyone.

Yesterday, ABC News published an article where they list 36 criminal cases “where President Donald Trump’s name was invoked in violent acts, threats of violent acts or assault.” They could fine no such cases for either Presidents Barack Obama or George W. Bush.

According to ABC News, “[i]n nine cases, perpetrators hailed Trump in the midst or immediate aftermath of physically attacking innocent victims. In another 10 cases, perpetrators cheered or defended Trump while taunting or threatening others. And in another 10 cases, Trump and his rhetoric were cited in court to explain a defendant’s violent or threatening behavior.”

Defense lawyers are citing the language of the President of the United States as being the instigator, the motivator, of the people who exhibited “violent or threatening behavior against others. Some were so inspired by Trump’s words that they yelled out Trump’s name during the attacks.

That is sick, but if anyone is surprised by this then they weren’t paying attention in 2016. Let’s not make the same mistake in 2020. Our country’s democracy and integrity is on the line.

This article was written before the shooting at an El Paso shopping mall where the alleged gunman scoped out the area before the assault to make sure there was a heavy Hispanic presence. There was. So he shot up the place killing 22 people and injuring dozens others. The shooter was apparently inspired by the President’s anti-immigrant rhetoric that referred to immigrants coming to America as an invasion. People are hurting and killing people because they believe they’re taking orders from this President.

Because we have a demagogue and a racist in the White House, people are harassing, threatening, taunting, physically attacking, shooting, and killing other people because they believe that will make them a patriot.

Welcome to Donald Trump’s America.

Please vote in 2020 to take our country back.

Make This Madness Stop…Vote!

Tomorrow is election night. Even if you aren’t part of the Resistance that’s been waiting two years for this day, it’d be hard not to know election day is coming with all the political ads on TV, signs along the roads, and campaign robocalls and text messages inundating your phone, as they are mine. But I don’t complain as my mother does. I understand this is how it goes, and I appreciate the people who give their time to support the candidate they truly believe exemplifies their values and will be the best representation for their community.

I wrote postcards for the party I support and hope to win. As a lesbian with a serious pre-existing condition, it should be no surprise which party I want to take over Congress. One party is currently in court suing the government over the protections for people with pre-existing conditions, claiming the mandate that no insurance company may deny or charge higher premiums to people who are sick, is unconstitutional (I bet Trump doesn’t know how to spell that word).

I’ll give you a hint as to which party is doing this….It’s the Republicans.

Also, what should be no surprise to any gay person, the administration is doing nothing to protect the gay community.  On the campaign trail, Trump promised to be the community’s greatest ally while he held up a rainbow flag. I didn’t buy it, but some gay people did as they cheered him on with their Gays For Trump cardboard signs. Even while choosing anti-gay Mike Pence as his running mate, some gays still believed he’d have their backs.   Not sure what they were drinking, but it must have been as strong as jet fuel.

I’m voting against the Republican party for many reasons, but the main one is because this country needs a political party that will check Donald Trump’s dictatorship ways. He truly wants to be a dictator and sees himself as above the law. He once said he could shoot someone on 6th Avenue and get away with it. If the Republicans are his jury, then yes, Donald Trump will get away with it.

Please don’t let Donald Trump get away with it.

Vote Blue.

GOP Out

Don't Boo
